Learn the basics of fly fishing and become acquainted with the fisheries, tackle used and techniques that apply. Class will provide information for a foundation for developing fly fishing skills. Students to provide own transportation; no equipment necessary.

A three-hour classroom seminar to learn how easy it is to become familiar with the art of tying flies. The class will cover the anatomy of an artificial fly, hook identification, and tool and material use as well as tool and material identification and application. Olympic Peninsula flies that will catch fish will be the flies demonstrated. Enough information will be covered to give you a foundation for a future in the art of fly-tying.

Learn how to apply the fundamentals from fly-fishing basics class. Includes three Satruday field trips, each with prior Monday classroom instruction explaining waters, techniques, and flies to be used when fly-fishing the Olympic Peninsula. An interactive learning experience designed to familiarize you with the amazing biodiversity of the local marine environment. Completion of the course satisfies the requirements for volunteering at the Feiro Marine Life Center.

A tour of Peninsula fishable lakes. Class will cover lake fisheries availability and techniques that apply. Students to provide own transportation; no equipment necessary.
C-O 010 RAILROADS: HERE & THERE, THEN & NOW • 0 Cr.
Learn the general historical background of the railroad in North America and then concentrate on the histories of the 30+ railroads that operated in Clallam County. The histories of the local railroads will be illustrated through maps and photographs and with hands-on artifacts. A short section will cover current-day rail travel in the US, UK, and Australia.

Thirty years ago, Pat Neal completed an historic site survey on the Olympic Peninsula for the state of Washington. This is an opportunity to learn about what was here at the time and what remains in 2011. A fascinating look at, "The Last Frontier".

Learn how to catch Steelhead and where the hot spots are located. Classes will cover techniques and various tackle and gear used on the Olympic Peninsula. Two classroom sessions and two Saturday full-day field trips. Students provide their own gear and transportation.

Learn how to catch steelhead using a conventional rod-and-reel (level wind) using drift gear, bait, spoons, spinners. Three hours of classroom instruction with an all-day Saturday field trip. Students provide their own gear and transportation.

Learn the technique of how to float (strike indicator) fish for steelhead using jigs and gear. Fishing locations provided. Students provide their own gear. Three hours of classroom instruction with an all day Saturday field trip. Students provide their own transportation.

Become familiar with the Peninsula and learn the fishing opportunities available from a nonconsumptive recreational point of view. Fundamentals of fisheries, tackle, techniques, and fishable waters, including Salmon, Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, Searun Cutthroat Trout, Bottom fish, and Rockfish will all be discussed. Class includes three field trips on the Peninsula and three classroom sessions. Student responsible for own transportation.

Learn where the Olympic Peninsula's fishing hot-spots are located: the beaches, estuaries, rivers, streams, high lakes, lowland lakes, beaver ponds, and open salt waters. The tackle used, techniques, and existing fisheries are also discussed. There are three classroom sessions with three Saturday field trips. Students will provide their own gear and transportation. The Olympic Peninsula supports a huge variety of freshwater fishing opportunities for salmon, trout and steelhead. Join local guide and historian, Pat Neal, to learn how to catch these fish on flies, bait and lures. This is a lecture course that covers location, fish identification, laws, ethics, and a little history of local fishing.
